Claytonia or Miner’s Lettuce is a tender green that grows in abundant patches wherever it is planted and allowed to reseed. It is native to the west coast with a range stretching from British Columbia to Guatemala and east to the Dakotas. The leaves, blossoms and stems are edible and full of vitamin C. In the wild it can be found growing in the shade of forests at medium and low elevations. This patch in Ohio was thriving in a greenhouse.
